A class artist as Valchan Petrov has no longer been a subject to analyze as his works have become iconic for the sensitive and perceptive viewer. But there is always something that amazes me very strongly in his work- which is exactly his ability to display that symbiosis between earth and heaven. That symbiosis, which is the religious nature of the Bulgarians, remained in their depths pagans, but with a longing soul for Christianity. Valchan’s works are an excellent achievement of a heavenly spirit, firmly inosculated with the earth. That is why everything he paints carries a powerful charge of that eternal battle of the matter with the spirit, of the intoxicating beauty of the earth matters and the glorious elevation of the heaven.
