“The spiritual health of a people is expressed through their love for their folk art.”
From a flyer promoting a Bulgarian folk dance club.

August 29, 20:00 h. || Tobacco Warehouse
Tickets @ Eventim: 5 BGN

Bulgarian Folk Art is the collective term used for the works of art and the achievements of culture handed down from generation to generation of Bulgarians for a time long enough for the name of their original author to be forgotten. This art is always anonymous and has a mythological character, and tells the story of a time long past.
Contemporary Art is the type of art marked by the spirit of the age. Artists have a central place in it – they need to be free, to express themselves and be open to new techniques and to various kinds of art which they would use in their works.
Identity tests the relationship and difference between Bulgarian folk art and contemporary art in action. It experiments with the correlation of the tools used by performance and folklore (folk dances, folk music), at the same time creating space for a personal viewpoint on the subject of harmony/ disharmony, need/ duty, spontaneity/ concept, dialogue/ alienation.
Identity is created with the motivation to offer the wide audience an idea focused on people’s need to connect with each other through the sense of identity more often. On the one hand, the project explores the importance of authenticity in the means of traditional art and performance; on the other, it also touches upon the following questions: “Where do we come from?”, “What is this that unites us?”, and “Is this indeed folk art today?”
