Lonely Planet’s experts have decided on the best cities to visit in 2015. According to the Lonely Planet's ranking, Plovdiv is among the top 10 tourist destinations for 2015 after Washington DC, El Chalten, Milan, Zermatt, and Valletta, surpassing cities like Vienna, Shanghai, and Toronto. Leading TV companies such as BBC, CNN, and Euronews quoted Lonely Planet's experts who said: "One of Europe’s most beautiful old towns, with a backdrop of Bulgaria’s dramatic Rhodope Mountains. Historical treasures by the thousand. Smouldering nightlife and a wicked sense of humour".
