Women's National Volleyball League 2023
Volleyball Club Maritza (Plovdiv) was founded in 1950 as part of the physical education society of the same name, founded in 1921, and as a successor of the workers' volleyball team at the textile factory Maritza. It bears the name of the Maritsa River, which runs through the city of Plovdiv. The company and the factory were positioned in the North district (also known as Kershiaka), which is why Kershiakaliki became one of the team's nicknames for a long time. However, the more popular nickname, which has persisted to this day, is based on the club colours - Yellow and Blue.
