Publisher "Janet 45" with the assistance of the Municipality of Plovdiv first organized the literary festival "PLOVDIV READS" in 2003.

This year, the festival will take place between June 9 and 19. The official opening of "Plovdiv Reads" 2024 is on June 9 (Sunday) at 8:00 PM at the Orpheus Summer Cinema. As is tradition, the "Orpheus Wreath" award for significant contributions to contemporary Bulgarian poetry and the "Golden Brush" award for the best book design will be presented. The event will conclude with a concert by the Plovdiv band "Kerana and the Cosmonauts."

Renowned publishers from across the country will attend this celebration of books, and Plovdiv's Main Street will transform into a vast open-air bookstore. Meetings with Bulgarian and international writers will be held in the houses of the Old Town, the Ivan Vazov National Library, community centers, the charming neighborhood of Kapana, and other favorite spots around Plovdiv. The Book Alley - Plovdiv, organized by the "Bulgarian Book" Association in partnership with the festival, will take place from June 9 to 16, 2024, at Central Square, featuring over 40 exhibitors. Throughout the festival, the Literary Corner at the Book Alley, located next to the Tsar Simeon Garden, will offer all-day activities for children, including meetings with authors and illustrators, book premieres, creative workshops, street performances, and many smiles for young and old alike with the participation of the festival's volunteers.

Since 2015, the organizers of "Plovdiv Reads" have also awarded the "Golden Brush" prize for the best book design. The awardees include Hristo Gochev (2015), Yana Levieva (2016), Kiril Zlatkov (2017), Ivo Rafailov (2018), Stefan Kassarov (2019), Lyuba Haleva (2020), Kapka Kaneva (2021), and Milena Valnarova (2022).
