Ghost, the musical based on the Hollywood film of the same name, starring Demi Moore, Patrick Swayze and Whoopi Goldberg, premiered in Manchester in 2011 and immediately took over the West End and Broadway stages. The libretto is written by Bruce Joel Rubin, and the music is by Glenn Ballard and Dave Stewart, who the audience knows from Eurythmics.
The plot tells about the lovers Sam and Molly, who are attacked one night on their way home and Sam dies, but remains trapped between this world and the next. Molly is in danger and Sam can't leave her alone. Medium Oda May Brown helps him connect with his beloved and warn her that the people around her are not what they seem.
Addressing the themes of good and evil, love that conquers even death, hope and light, the musical transports us to the worlds of humans and spirits with beautiful music, exciting acting and a plot that combines romance, mystery and thriller. Communicating with spirits also brings humor to the story. The iconic song "Unchained melody", performed by the Righteous Brothers in the film, takes center stage in the musical as well.
Director Srebrina Sokolova gathers a young but experienced and very enthusiastic team of singers and actors. The stage conductor Stracimir Pavlov brings his personal touch to the musical scores, and the choreographer Nadya Dimokova makes people and spirits dance on the stage in a special way. The scenography is the work of the winner of the Ikar Petko Tanchev, and in the role of Oda May Brown we will see the inimitable Militsa Gladnishka.
