17th Edition of the Traditional Crafts Week
Tuesday, July 1 – Sunday, July 6
Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv

This year, once again, the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv brings together master craftsmen – our “living human treasures” – to take part in the 17th Edition of the Traditional Crafts Week. We are looking forward to an exceptionally interesting, colorful, and unique experience – a true craftsman’s week during which the museum courtyard transforms into a genuine artisan marketplace (charshiya).
This year’s theme for the “Traditional Crafts Week” is “The Sign” – the symbolic language present in every handcrafted item. Whether we look at the embroidery adorned with ornaments, felt works, woven fabrics, or pottery, we find anthropomorphic, geometric, or floral motifs everywhere – a visual language that objects have used to “speak” from ancient times to the present day.
Visitors will be able to observe rare traditional crafts such as vertical loom weaving, pottery, blacksmithing and knife-making, felting, lacework and embroidery, Easter egg painting, candle making, jewelry crafting, and more.
In the spirit of good tradition, live demonstrations will be held throughout the week, and everyone will have the opportunity to “try their hand at the craft.”
