Time Apart
Time Apart, Theatrical Performance
Friday, February 27 at 7 p.m.
Boris Hristov House of Culture
For this project, Bina Haralampieva relies on her long-time creative collaborators: dramaturgy – Yuriy Dachev, set design – Teodora Lazarova, costumes – Svila Velichkova, music – Asen Avramov. The performance features 13 actors – established names from the core of the Varna Theatre, young talents who have recently joined the troupe, and special guest Kolyo Staykov from the Shumen Theatre.
Unlike the cinematic classic, Bina Haralampieva’s production avoids naturalistic violence. The director explains that she wanted to “spare the blood” and focus on psychology, dignity, and the power of choice. Her aim is for the performance to be an “ancient tragedy” that does not divide people along religious or ethnic lines, but unites them through universal questions of faith and ancestral memory.
The text is a stage adaptation by Yuriy Dachev, who reinterprets Anton Donchev’s novel, focusing on the clash of personalities. Teodora Lazarova’s set design and Svila Velichkova’s costumes create a sense of timelessness, while Asen Avramov’s music is a key element that amplifies the emotional intensity of the Rhodope Mountains.
