The brilliant play “The Illusion in Marriage” (L’illusion conjugale) is a four-time recipient of France’s most prestigious theatre awards, the Molières. The author, the great contemporary French playwright Éric Assous, creates an original story in which a husband, a wife, and a possible lover shatter the illusion of the perfect marital couple through humor, finesse, intelligence, and exquisite presence, brought to life on the Bulgarian stage by the popular young and charismatic actors – Philip Bukov, Desi Bakardzhieva, and Petar Danov.
Is it naïve to think that peace is achievable in marriage? What is trust based on? Do we need every truth? And every lie? What do we need to preserve ourselves and the person beside us? How much truth can a relationship bear? And how much love? Because in love and in theatre, the most beautiful moments are precisely those we least expect…
