Anastas – 70 Years of Spirit and Mysticism
Anastas – 70 Years of Spirit and Mysticism, Retrospective Exhibition
Tuesday, March 17 – Tuesday, April 17
Temporary Exhibition Halls, City Art Gallery
Anastas Konstantinov was more than a painter – he was a contemporary mystic and spiritual explorer. His work is a complex translation of the ancient Thracian heritage and Christian symbolism into the language of modern expressionism. For him, the canvas was a space for “apocalyptic” battles and the triumph of light, where, in his own words, “absurdity gives birth to truth.”
The exhibition traces his intense journey from the early explorations, which encoded his rebellious spirit, through the mature palette, rich with energy and philosophical depth, to the “American period,” featuring works created in his Pittsburgh studio that expanded the scale of his cosmos.
The exhibition is realized with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and is a highlight of the city’s Cultural Calendar for 2026.
