Women Through the Millennia – Exhibition
Wednesday, March 25 – Sunday, July 12
Regional Archaeological Museum

The exhibition explores the timeless and indispensable role of women in human history. It is a journey through the millennia, from the 4th millennium BC to the 18th century. The selected artefacts come from archaeologically significant sites in the Plovdiv region, including Yassa Tepe, the flat mound along Brezovsko Shose, Nebet Tepe, Dolnoslav, Skutare, Velingrad, Kapitan Dimitrievo, as well as sites in the Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora, Nova Zagora, and Kazanlak areas.
Woman… divine, enigmatic, protective, and inspiring… She bears many names and fulfills diverse roles in human society - daughter (maiden), wife, mother, teacher, educator, temptress, and provocative lover. She practices various professions and is intrinsically linked to the divine mystery of creation.
The exhibition “Women Through the Millennia” traces the image of woman through the pantheon of ancient goddesses and their representations in classical art. In the medieval period, it examines the dual aspect of woman as both saint and bearer of original sin.
The exhibition is accompanied by an audio guide available in Bulgarian and English.
