Theophil is a successful writer and celebrity, but his fame has recently faded. Dreaming of distancing himself from his image as an author of sugary romantic novels, he writes a small poetic fairy tale about a sea snail that has lost its shell and is searching for the meaning of life.
Unexpectedly even to himself, this story helps Theophil rediscover his inspiration, but he has no idea what effect it will have on his loved ones. Like in a mirror, they begin to recognize themselves in the characters—sea urchins, shrimp, sirens, and other sea creatures—and discover hidden messages in the metaphors.
That evening, they all gather to settle their accounts. And a real catastrophe unfolds. One after another, family members pour out everything that has been weighing on them, exposing their fears and saying everything on their minds, creating a flood of comic and surreal misunderstandings and misinterpretations.
“Mirror, Mirror” by Leonor Confino is a witty contemporary comedy about the 21st-century human living in an era of increasing alienation, raising the essential question of whether we are capable of seeing the world as it is or only through the reflection of who we ourselves are.
