Regional Ethnographic museum – Plovdiv presents the exhibition by Ethnographic and Archaeological Museum – Elhovo: “Tints from the valley of Tundzha river, Strandzha and Sakar mountains”.
Varieties of the sukman type costumes from Elhovo region that are spread in the valley of Tundzha river, Strandzha and Sakar mountains are shown in the exhibition. From the rich museum’s collections are presented the original adornments and women’ costumes that are more than a century old, embroidered with love and fantasy by the skillful women. As an artist with needle and thread women weaved their deepest desires into the embroidery on the necklines, skirts, aprons and headscarves.
Over 15 different types of sukmans can be seen in this colourful and beautiful exhibition. Among them are old and contemporary sukman costumes from Elhovo region, festive girl’s and bride’s clothing, old women’ clothing and many more. The exhibited traditional fabrics show that the Bulgarian women were masters and real aesthetes not only in the making and decoration of their clothes, but also in their desire to create warmth and comfort at home.
