EASTER EGGS FROM THE CZECH REPUBLIC, SLOVAKIA AND BULGARIA
The exhibition “Beauty from Near and Far. Easter Eggs from the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria” is dedicated to the Easter customs and traditions of the three Slavic nations. The painted eggs are in the centre of attention. Here You can see more than 300 different eggs, decorated in different traditional and modern techniques, applied in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Bulgaria. One of the exhibition’s main goals is to present to the public the richness of ornamental techniques and motifs, different decorative styles in the three Slavic countries, as well as their distribution in order to make visible their common features, their differences and specifics. In this exhibit presentя 24 different techniques for Easter egg decoration. Each painted egg symbolizes resurrection, life and love. According to its decoration it bears a wish for health, longevity, good luck and prosperity.
The exhibition is curated by the Association of Czechs, Slovaks and Friends – Plovdiv, Historical Museum – Velingrad and Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv in cooperation with members of Czechoslovak club “T. G. Masaryk” – Bulgaria.
“Beauty from Near and Far” will be officially opened in Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv on April 15th (Friday), in 17:30 and will be on display until May 7th, 2015.
On April 16th and 17th the exhibition will be supplemented with demonstrations of traditional Bulgarian and Czech egg painting techniques.
