“THE WONDROUS WORLD OF THE THRACIAN WOMAN”

The exhibition is dedicated to the woman and her complex world. It presents typical beliefs, concepts, culture and everyday life of the woman from Thace. We have selected some important moments from her life – birth, lazaruvane, engagement, wedding, maternity and the related specific rituals and customs. The visitor gets entangled in the wondrous world of the Thracian woman, her dreams and longings from cradle to the very old age. The woman is the one that follows and preserves the tradition.

The exhibition “The Wondrous World of the Thracian Woman” aims to reveal all female aspects of traditional woman’s life; not just the common image of a hard-working woman, but also the woman who takes care of the house and keeps the peace and harmony in the family. During the event NIGHT Plovdiv ’2016 the Ethnographic Museum will accent on the different family, social and ritual functions of the woman as well as the norms and customs that the Thracian woman complied with.

Our visitors can also see clothing and jewelry from Thrace that have a particular symbolism. For our youngest guests we have prepared an interactive part with games and quizzes whose answers are hidden all around the museum.

The exhibition will be on display from September 23rd to October 15th, 2016.
