REGIONAL ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM – PLOVDIV

On September 15, 2017 (Friday) at 17:30 h. the Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv presents the painting exhibition 

„Living Stories“

REM – Plovdiv intends to show its rich painting collections with works by some of the most famous Bulgarian artists. The exhibition includes 20 paintings by various Bulgarian painters, among them: Darena Georgieva, Petko Vladov, Anastas Staykov, Elza Goeva, Toma Trifonovski, Kolyu Vitkovski, Encho Pironkov and others.

The selected storylines are related to the labour, life, weekdays and holidays of the Bulgarian people. All of the paintings reveal different aspects of our ancestors' lives and the creative view is still alive nowadays. The emotional impact of the paintings gave us the idea to name the exhibition “Living Stories”.

The artists have been working at different times, since the 1930s to nowadays. It is interesting to trace such a long chronological period through the eye of the artist. You can see the impression of time, which inevitably reflects their stories. There is also a difference in the colour palette that every artist was using, but they are all alive, dynamic and “speaking”. The canvasses reflect the characteristics of the period they represent. During the selection of the paintings we were guided by the strong emotional impact on the viewer of every painting.

REM – Plovdiv once again reveals its potential as a guardian of the heritage and as a modern institution with contemporary thinking at the same time. The exhibition is prepared especially for the Night of Museums and Galleries, so it allows every visitor of the museum to get close to the unique works of some of the greatest Bulgarian masters that have never been shown before. The paintings also tell these “Living Stories” about the lives of Bulgarian people and they are even more imposing and easier to remember because of their expressive language.

The paintings express emotion and also give information about the life and culture of the people before us.

The exhibition will be on display in REM – Plovdiv until September 30, 2017.
