BRAVOS presents an overview of the new Spanish design scene by showcasing a selection of the best young product designers in the country. Curator Juli Capella has gathered 21 names which we'll definitely hear more of in the coming decades of the 21st century. All designers presented in the exhibition were born after 1960 and turn out to be more popular abroad than at home.
In recent years Spain has successfully built a new image of itself, rather different from its well-known tourist appeal. More and more acknowledged museums and art centers have been created, fashion and gastronomy have come to the spotlight. The rising popularity of Spanish design comes as a natural consequence of the trend to develop the country as a tourist destination.
The Spanish offer a curious pragmatic combination of culture and industrial manufacture, intertwine art with other disciplines, and make good use of all the latest technologies. As a result, their high-quality product design has not only mapped the country on the international scene, but has also become part of the everyday life.
All Spanish citizens for instance have the pleasure of waiting for the bus at well-designed bus stops and enjoy their rest on remarkable benches.
The BRAVOS selection (not a random title at all) also became the core of the book BRAVOS. Groundbreaking Spanish Design published by the State Department for International Cooperation through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).
