A LESSON IN POLITICS
Portuguese graphic designer Marco Balesteros is the living proof that a true artist is always into a number of projects, which often happen to be very different in nature and absolutely intriguing. Although he holds a Dutch diploma in typography, for the last few years Marco has been probing the possibilities of alternative (self)education. He is coming to Plovdiv to conduct an unusual workshop called A Lesson in Politics.
In fact, the workshop is a portable school, but you won't find the typical teachers and students. Participants should not take education as a tedious and formal act. It should rather be a game in which they set the subject and find the most appropriate methods for discussing it. The workshop in Plovdiv will be much like a lesson in politics, highlighting the specific modern relations between politics and square uprisings, so active in the last couple of years (Brazil, Turkey, the Arab Spring and Ukraine being just a few of the examples).
Marco Balesteros is a graphic designer and editor, founder of studio Letra. He is involved in a number of educational projects and, since recently, in developing self-publishing through the newly established Random Press project based in Lisbon and Frankfurt. Marco Balesteros was among the four finalists in the competition for logo design of Sofia – candidate for European Capital of Culture 2019.
