Tickets @ Eventim: 5 BGN
About the center:
Derida Dance is the first center for contemporary dance and training in Bulgaria, founded by Zhivko Zhelyazkov and Atanas Maev. DDC is a recognized name in the field and is undoubtedly associated with originality, eccentricity, and high technical training of the dancers. The center provides modern and classical classes for professional dancers and also training in various dance styles for amateurs. At the same time, it offers a residency program for artists and theoreticians in the field of contemporary performing arts and gives the opportunity to organize various workshops, presentations, and discussions.
About the performance:
Mayday is a word internationally accepted as a call for help in an emergency situation. The performance is a detective magnifying glass through which the audience will recognize the prominent forms of communicative chaos in the rapidly developing competitive environment. The advance of technology facilitates the exchange of information regardless of the distance between people. In the multimedia performance Mayday, the exchange of messages is incessant, yet the need for “emergency traffic” communication in the struggle for personal survival is still preserved.
The dancers' bodies test the limits of this dynamic kind of communication and give the audience a new interpretation of the decision to survive. The multimedia effects are of extremely high standards, and also become a central element of the stage space, where every movement, every sound, and every ray stands for something else. The audio and visual images coordinate, accompany and accentuate on the body movements. Milena Videnova, Petya Mukova, and Philip Milanov tell three different stories which fascinate not only with their aesthetic quality but also their depth of meaning and impact.
