About the company:
Sidra Bell Dance New York is a boutique dance studio based in New York. It concentrates on innovative and provocative kinetic techniques in the sphere of contemporary dance and theatrical performance. Their aesthetics can be described as original, complex and highly physical. Sidra Bell’s works stir the imagination by exploring the intricacies of the human condition. The studio’s repertoire is extremely varied. Their performances have unusual and complex structure; they emanate sensuality and intuition through the expression of deep, meaningful possibilities. The choreography constantly breaks the boundaries of traditional dance techniques and use of language and gestures, the movements are unconventional, the dancers’ presence – extremely stimulating. Sidra Bell’s dance vocabulary is characterized by an atmosphere of dark romance, elegance, and gothic aesthetics. She skillfully uses graphic stylized materials to create unreal worlds in which she interweaves the organic and the synthetic, the real and the unreal, the visible and the invisible, facts and metaphors.
SBDNY places the focus on the exploration and process of content development rather than the outcome and final product. Some of the studio’s most famous installations and theatrical performances include Chimeras (Stella Adler Studio of Acting), House Unrest (The Gershwin Hotel), Combustion (in collaboration with Avant Magazine), Conductivity (a duet dance performance by Shamel Pitts and Robbie Sublett), and Beautiful Beast. SBDNY is not only a dance studio but also a centripetal force for a whole new generation of dancers and artists of the highest professional rank in terms of dance technique skills and impressive intelligence.

About the performance:
Nudity demonstrates the energy and aesthetics of SBDNY in a remarkably captivating manner. The choreographer Sidra Bell tells a touching love story which relates many conflicting emotions – slow and melancholy movements give way to dynamic series of unexpected turns. The audience’s imagination is being constantly hit by a new dose of extravagance. The simple stage space keeps the main focus on the five bodies, while the meticulous lighting reveals every inch of their physique. The effect is so profound that the eye can penetrate right into the performers’ inner world. Nudity constructs an intensive world of deep sensations and emotions that consequently produce analogous vibes into the audience. The nudity of the human body and the nudity of the human soul are constantly drawing near, intertwining, and interacting, as expressed through the magnificent suppleness, elegance, and harmony of the dancers’ bodies.
