On 24th of November at 18.30h in the Choral Hall № 13 "Prof. Ivan Spassov "of the Academy of Music , Dance and Fine Arts - Central building (2, Todor Samodumov str.) René Block will hold a lecture “I have no weekend”. 

The curator will speak about his 50-year long practice and his collector's passion, presenting his project of the same title "Ich Kenne kein Weekend. Archive and Collection René Block ". 
The lecture in Plovdiv is jointly organized by the Sariev Contemporary Gallery and Plovdiv 2019 Municipal Foundation in cooperation with Goethe Institute - Bulgaria and the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts - Plovdiv. 

The lecture will be held in English with consecutive translation into Bulgarian.

In 1964, at the age of 22 René Block opened his first Gallery in Berlin, working with artists like Sigmar Polke, Wolf Vostell, Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik and the international Fluxus group and others. 
After 1972 he simultaneously began to work as a free curator and was awarded with the art prize of the German Critics Association for his ten-year gallery program in Berlin, in 1974. In the same year he opened an exhibition space in New York with “I like America and America likes Me” by Joseph Beuys.
His work for the Berlin Artists Residence Program of the DAAD from 1982 to 1992 was followed by his position as the director of the exhibition service for the Institute for Foreign Relations (ifa). 
From 1997 until 2006 René Block was the director of the Kunsthalle Museum Fridericianum in Kassel.
Throughout the years he also curated several Biennials, beginning with the Hamburg Biennial in 1985, then Sydney (1990), Istanbul (1995), Gwangju (Eurafrica/2ooo) and Cetinje (2oo4), followed by the Belgrade October Salon (2006) and the Nordic Pavillion of the Venice Biennial (2007).
Upon his return to Berlin in 2008 he founded the artspace TANAS, a platform for Turkish art and continued to run the Edition Block. In Denmark he was cofounder of Kunsthalle 44 Moen and functions as its artistic director.
