THE 13TH EDITION OF THE "YOUNG WINE FESTIVAL" STARTS IN THE OLD TOWN

On Friday, November 26, the thirteenth edition of the Young Wine Festival begins, which is traditionally held on the last weekend of November. This year these are the days - November 26, 27 and 28, 2021. The Revival houses in the Old Town of Plovdiv will again hospitably open doors for meetings with friends, tasting of Bulgarian wines, cultural events, delicious food and lots of fun. The 13th edition is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Bulgaria.

Organizers are "Tourism Council - Plovdiv" and the Municipality of Plovdiv, with the active cooperation of Minicipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" and the University of Food Technology - Plovdiv, all partners, participants in the "Young Wine Festival", as well as institutions related to culture and art in the city.

The event is funded by the Annual Program for Tourism Development of the Municipality of Plovdiv for 2021.

The opening is on November 26 (Friday). Traditionally, from the square in front of the Municipality of Plovdiv at 13:00 h., "Dionysian procession" accompanied by the Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" will lead all wine lovers at the entry of the Old Town. At 14:00 h. the official guests will welcome the participants.

The Minister of Tourism Stela Baltova will open the first barrel of young wine of the wine cellar - gold medalist from the previous edition. Together we will kick off the wine tasting celebrations with a toast, which will continue in all three days:
● November 26 - from 14:00 to 18:00 h.
● November 27 - from 11:00 to 18:00 h.
● November 28 - from 11:00 to 17:00 h.

The access of cars on Saborna Street, in the area of the intersection with Mitropolit Paisiy Street, is restricted on November 26 (Friday) from 13:30 h. to 14:30 h. The temporary organization is introduced due to the official opening of the "Young Wine Festival".

You will have the opportunity to be the first to taste the young wines /vintage 2021/ of the participating wine producers with more than 250 types of Bulgarian wines. Don't miss the opportunity to get a branded glass to feel like real professionals during the tastings.

We would like to remind all wine lovers that the tasting is carried out with tokens. ONE TOKEN is equal to ONE TASTING. An information stand and associates will be located in front of each location. There you will be able to buy a tasting set. The prices are between BGN 3 and BGN 16.

This year the Young Wine Festival welcomes a record number of participants - 60, of which 42 are winemakers, 15 - producers of food and products and 3 accompanying participants. They will be located in the yards of 16 of the Revival houses of Old Plovdiv. This year there are two new locations - "Dzhurkovi Gallery" and "Nedkovich" House. For the convenience of wine lovers there will be information boards directing to all festival locations. For the second year in a row, the Ministry of Tourism supports the Young Wine Festival 2021 by participating with its information stand located in the yard of Zlatyu Boyadzhiev Gallery.

Celebrate your presence at the Young Wine Festival 2021 and invite your friends to enjoy a spectacle of tastes and emotions with us. All information is now available on social media - presentation of the locations, participants, as well as important information related to the organization of the event.

An expert commission, nominated by the University of Food Technology, will evaluate the qualities of the young wines presented at the festival and will honor the winners of the DIONYSUS competition during the "Evening of the Wine Masters". The "big" jury, consisting of festival visitors who have filled in digital questionnaires, will determine the "BEST YOUNG WINE 2021" in the categories - red, white and rosé, the winners will receive plaques, and a few lucky ones who voted - a bottle wine.

The "Young Wine Festival" will be held in strict compliance with all anti-epidemic measures regulated by the Minister of Health. Disinfectants will be placed in front of each location. Information boards will remind of the introduced measures. Information is also included in the printed brochures of the event. There will be one-way movement through the locations, designated with guiding arrows​. We kindly ask the visitors of the festival to wear their personal protective masks and to take them off only during tastings. Do not gather in large groups and move only in the company of your closest friends or family. We would like to remind you that your personal responsibility will help to ensure safety.

Students from the partner of the festival - Medical University - Plovdiv will appeal and monitor the observance of the introduced measures. They will have distinctive signs in all locations.

For another year, the organizers continue their cause in support of students from specialized universities, providing scholarships with proceeds from the festival.

The festival locations where you will be able to taste young wine are: Gallery "Dzhurkovi", Restaurant "Filipopolis", Restaurant "Civil Club", Residence "Trakart", House "Birdas", Museum Pharmacy "Hippocrates", Exposition "Zlatyu Boyadzhiev" of the City Galery of Fine Arts, Exposition "Icons" of the City Galery of Fine Arts, Regional Ethnographic Museum, Balabanov House, Exposition "Encho Pironkov" of the City Galery of Fine Arts, House "Georgiadi" (Exposition Bulgarian Revival of the History Museum), House "Nikola Nedkovich", House "Ivan Chernozemski", Restaurant "Alafrangite" and Residence "Trakiyski Stan".

Young Wine Festival Program - 2021

November 26 (Friday)

13:00 - "Dionysian procession" accompanied by the Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" and God Dionysus.

Stefan Stambolov Square in front of the Municipality of Plovdiv;

14:00 - Official opening with the participation of the Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" and official guests. Opening of the first barrel by God Dionysus.

At the entry of the Old Town /2-4 Saborna Street/. In case of bad weather - at the Roman stadium;

14:30 - Beginning of the wine tastings;

Expect music and dancing at the festival locations.

November 27 (Saturday)

12:00 - Workshop for candles in wine glasses - with prior appointment. Residence "Trakiyski Stan".

14:00 - "The unknown faces of Mavruda" | Admission is free

Presentation and tasting of white, gray, Varna's and dessert Mavrud.

Ethnographic Museum, stand of the Agricultural University Plovdiv.

15:30 - "Bingo WINE" - a competitive game

November 28 (Sunday)

12:00 - Yoga with wine and Fam - Square in front of the church of St. St. Constantine and Helena at Saborna Street

14:00 - "VR & WINE - a new generation experience" - presentation and demonstration of BM Vision - House "Ivan Chernozemski"
