"Cabaret" reveals life in Berlin from 1929 to 1930. The time when the German capital was in depression after the economic crisis of the First World War. The city, which is the epicenter of nightlife and the artistic avant-garde, irresistibly attracts artists, writers, musicians but at the same time is the beginning of the totalitarian regime of Adolf Hitler and the unstoppable rise of the Nazi Party and the Third Reich.
The plot follows the love story of two romantic couples. One is that of English cabaret star Sally Bowles and her relationship with aspiring American writer Cliff Bradshaw, who arrives in Berlin on New Year's Eve. The other story is between Cliff's landlady, Frauline Schneider, and another of her lodgers, Herr Schultz. Both are German, but he is of Jewish descent. Two beautiful, cheerful and romantic stories, but with a doomed end.
