Chitalishte Tsar Boris III and Tsaritsa Yoanna – 1931

About us:

This chitalishte was established in the residential area Borislav and its activities were initially related to music evenings, interpretations of folklore customs, lectures, celebrations of notable dates and national heroes, theatre performances. Its library holds 467 volumes, 786 book loans, and it has 67 subscribers. After 9 September 1944 the chitalishte was renamed to Georgi Bakalov and in 1958 it was merged with Chitalishte Hristo Botev. In 1975 the third floor of the newly built multipurpose premises on 41 A, Slaveevi gori Street were allocated for library services and a music room was set up as a branch of Chitalishte Hristo Botev. The general assembly meeting in October 1989 decided to restore the Georgi Bakalov which used to function until 1958 as a separate entity. In 1997 the very first name of the chitalishte was restored as well – Tsar Boris II and Tsaritsa Yoanna.

The cultural agenda of the chitalishte regularly holds concerts, writers’ meetings, literary evenings, participation in competitions for young performers, etc. Its current priorities include transforming the library into a cultural information centre and offering music courses for children.

If you are curious to find out more, see the Information card of the chitalishte provided by the Regional centers for expert consultation and information (RCECI).
