ESTABLISHED ARTISTS FROM THE END OF THE XX CENTURY TO THE PRESENT DAYS

The project Established artists from the end of the XX century until today aims to present the generation of artists who create their works in the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. It upgrades the exhibition of the City Art Gallery of Fine Arts - Plovdiv from 2019 THE FIRST BULGARIAN FAIR - PLOVDIV 1892 AND THE BEGINNING OF THE ORGANIZED ARTISTIC LIFE IN BULGARIA, and which presented famous Bulgarian artists who worked in the late nineteenth and mid-twentieth century.

The aim of the current project is to enhance the position of the city of Plovdiv as a permanent all-year cultural destination.

The project, planned for July 2022 in the exhibition hall "2019", envisions four areas:

- Names - exhibition, the result of research by art critics and curators from the City Art Gallery of Fine Arts - Plovdiv.

- Dialogues - a series of meetings at which the cultural community of the city will have the opportunity to meet some of the artists presented in the exhibition, as well as to attend talks led by art critics, curators, and collectors.

- Atelier - creative workshop in which Plovdiv artists will present techniques and skills in painting, graphics, sculpture, and design.

- Memory - a documentary about some of the great Bulgarian artists who are no longer with us. This film acquaints the audience with interesting facts from the creative and life biography of the presented artists.

The project also works for a digital archive of events.

City Art Gallery of Fine Arts - Plovdiv was established in 1952. Its funds contain 7210 works, valuable examples of medieval, Renaissance, and contemporary Bulgarian art, curated in several collections - paintings, graphics, sculpture and applied arts, icons, Mexican art, photography. The main mission of the team of the gallery is to research, restore, preserve and promote the artistic heritage of its funds, as well as to initiate original and memorable creative projects. The project is part of the LEGACY programme of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture.
