Gregory Porter sings at the Ancient theatre

One of the most ingenious jazz and soul musicians, two-time Grammy winner Gregory Porter is coming to Bulgaria. His concert will be on July 31, 2022, at the Ancient Theater in Plovdiv.

Gregory Porter is one of the greatest voices of our generation. He received international recognition with two Grammy Awards for Liquid Spirit in 2014 for best vocal jazz album and for Take Me To The Alley in 2016. He gives concerts in sold-out halls around the world - Royal Albert Hall, Olympia and collaborates with musicians such as Stevie Wonder, Disclosure, Sam Smith, Jeff Goldblum and Moby. Gregory Porter is also one of the best-selling record artists in the world, winning three platinum and nine gold albums. It has nearly 340 000 followers on Spotify and over 193 million views on video platforms. "My voice is a gift from God and I want to share it with people," says Gregory.

He was born in Sacramento, California. Growing up among eight siblings, Nat King Cole's albums from the home record collection and he sang in the church choir. He has been inspired by artists such as Joe Williams and Donny Hathaway, who reflect on his style, which easily transitions between jazz, soul, rhythm and blues and gospel. He won a football scholarship, which took him to the University of San Diego, but a serious injury deprived him of a sports career and gave the world one of the best jazz musicians.

In New York, he works in a restaurant during the day and sings in jazz clubs at night. He later starred in the Broadway musical "It Ain't Nothin But the Blues", and in 2004 puts on his own musical Nat King Cole & Me, dedicated to his inspiration, where he plays his alter ego. His first two solo albums Water from 2010 and Be Good from 2012 received Grammy nominations for album and best R&B track, to reach today's recognition of the most successful male jazz vocalist in the world.

In 2020, Gregory Porter released his sixth album, All Rise, a return to lyrics with an everyday philosophy tuned to an exciting mix of jazz, blues, soul and gospel. At All Rise, Porter collaborated with longtime colleagues from his band, a specially selected 10-member choir and a section of horns and strings from the London Symphony Orchestra. As part of his tour, Gregory Porter is performing songs from his latest album, which we will hear in Plovdiv.
