24 March - 24 April
Balabanov House, 57 Konstantin Stoilov St.
Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute and City History Museum - Samokov invite all to the documentary exhibition "Greetings from Samokov and Chamkoria"
On the occasion of the 25th of March - International Postcard Day and the 130th anniversary of the first illustrated postcard in Bulgaria, which was issued in Plovdiv during the First Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition, the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute team has partnered with the City History Museum - Samokov. As a result, on 24 March 2022 Balabanov House will welcome the documentary exhibition "Greetings from Samokov and Chamkoria". The opening will be on 24 March 2022 (Thursday) from 17:00 to 18:30 in the presence of a team from the City History Museum - Samokov, led by its director Dr. Veselin Hadzhiangelov.
"The postcard preserves for generations important cultural monuments, historical and cultural events. This makes it an attribute that has a direct link to the mission of the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute", shares the team.
In 25 exhibition panels, viewers will have the opportunity to enjoy more than 80 examples of postcards created by some of the most renowned Bulgarian photography studios. Before the era of telephones, radio, television and the Internet, it was most fashionable to share where you are and greet your loved ones through a postcard. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries there was a boom in sending postcards with views of the towns and resorts visited. The burgeoning tourist industry sparked the publication, as well as the proliferation, of a variety of techniques for their execution - lithography, engraving and photography. The images provide insight into the architectural aesthetic and spirit of generations before us, as well as interesting information about Bulgaria's first holiday resort.
The exhibition will run until 24.04.2022.
Admission is free and organised according to the country's current anti-epidemic measures.
