Regional Ethnographic Museum – Plovdiv, 2 Dr Stoyan Chomakov St
The Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv presents the visiting exhibition of the Historical Museum - Strelcha, titled "Milyo Marinov Baltov. The Romantic Image of Faith. 150 Anniversary of the Artist's Birth". The opening will be on April 6, 2022 at 6 pm.
Milyo Marinov Baltov is one of the most interesting artists in the academic church art from the early 20th century. He is educated in the best traditions of European fine art, his mentor is Yaroslav Veshin, bringing his progressive European ideas. This is evident in the expressive lines, the three-dimensional construction, curiosity in elasticity and volume, the search for interesting lighting, the pursuit of sophisticated classical composition and posture, etc.
The creative and decorative work of the artist coincides with the increasing temple construction after the Liberation, driven by the desire to give the best possible representation of the newly-built churches. The modern figures painted by Baltov carry spiritual and divine features.
The name of the artist and public figure Milyo Marinov Baltov is ever so present in the cultural life of the town of Streltcha, not only as a member of a famous family and one of the town’s mayors. It lives through the icons and frescoes in the cathedral and monument "St. Arch. Michael” as well as in the collection of the Historical Museum where 27 of his artworks are stored. He is also the author of many decorative and iconographic pieces of art in the temples of the Pazardzhik and Plovdiv regions.
