Journey through living traditions. Intangible Cultural Heritage
The exhibition "Journey through living traditions. Intangible Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe" visits Plovdiv on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the International World Heritage Day, the 45th International Museum Day and the 1st Anniversary since the opening of the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis.
The event is organized on the initiative of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" in partnership with the Regional Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage in Southeast Europe under the auspices of UNESCO and the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO.
The exhibition "Journey through living traditions" gathers valuable photos from the countries of the region through a journey through their living traditions. Many of these customs and practices are the result of the encounters of different cultures in distant historical epochs. The exposition consists of 18 panels presenting the intangible cultural heritage of each member country of the Regional Center.
The official opening is on April 18, 2022 - the International Day of World Cultural Heritage, from 6 pm in the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis. The exhibition can be viewed until May 18, 2022 - International Museum Day.
Half an hour earlier, at 5.30 pm, the Municipal Institute "Ancient Plovdiv" invites you to the open space near the Bishop's Basilica, where the photo exhibition "Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis" will be opened on the occasion of the International Day for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and the anniversary of the opening of the Bishop's Basilica.
