Cipollino - ballet for children
7 May, 11:00
Boris Hristov House of Culture, 15 Gladston St, Plovdiv
Ballet for children by Karen Khachaturian
The story of Cipollino and his friends who fight against the unfair treatment of vegetables by the fruit aristocracy is told by choreographer and director Angelina Gavrilova. The show is a symbiosis between classical and neoclassical ballet. In it the aristocratic fruits dance on their toes, while the cheerful vegetables are characterized by elements of contemporary ballet. The colourful world of Gianni Rodari has been recreated by artist Adriana Naydenova through colourful costumes that recreate the character of the dancing fruits and vegetables in an original way, but also feature a look that is relevant to young audiences. Nikola Nalbantov's set design uses multimedia effects that transport the characters from the square to a dark prison or to a palace ball.
Opera Plovdiv's ballet performance lasts one hour and is suitable for children over 4 and their parents. The production team believes that adults will also watch Luccio with interest as it encodes present-day issues of political oppression.
