The original of the Panagyurishte Treasure will be exhibited in the museum in the period 10.05 - 12.06.2022.
The nine vessels from the Panagyurishte Gold Treasure, weighing over 6 kg, represent a magnificent work of art by master goldsmiths from the early Hellenistic era, used for drinking wine and feasting.
It is supposed to be part of the treasury of Alexander III the Great and Lysimachus or from the treasury of a temple. There is also an opinion that the treasure belonged to the famous Odryan ruler Seuthes III.
The treasure was probably hidden during the invasions of the Celts into the lands of the Thracians in 278 BC. There is also a hypothesis that its burial was part of the ruler's ritual functions.
The treasure is dated from the second half of the 4th century BC to the first half of the third century BC.
