20th Literary Festival - Plovdiv Reads 2022 and "Book Alley"

Plovdiv Reads Literary Festival is a forum that brings together book creators and readers. For the twentieth time in Plovdiv, the special festival week of the Plovdiv Reads 2022 Festival is taking place as part of the Plovdiv Municipality's Calendar of Cultural Events. It is hosted by the publishing house Janet 45. Co-organizers are the Ministry of Culture, Plovdiv Municipality, Ivan Vazov National Library and Bulgarian Book Association.
Within the framework of Plovdiv Reads, the Young Plovdiv Reads initiative takes place from March to October, making it possible for children/young people to meet and talk with writers, translators, artists and specialists from the world of book publishing and library activities.
The official opening of the largest literary festival in Bulgaria "Plovdiv reads" is on June 13 (Monday), from 20:00 at the Ancient Theater. Traditionally, the opening event will present the Orpheus Wreath Awards for the most outstanding poet of the past year, as well as the Golden Brush for the best book design. The audience will also be able to enjoy the musical performance "The Tale" - a concert by P.I.F., with the special participation of Vladimir Mihailov (vocals), Ersin Mustafov (vocals), Ivan Velkov (guitar), Martin Profirov (drums), Hristo Mihalkov bass guitar) and Poli Gerasimova (multimedia).

Before that, on the same day at 17:00 in the House Museum "Hristo G. Danov" will be held the traditional presentation of the National Literary Awards "Hristo G. Danov", organized by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Plovdiv.
Meetings with writers, translators, artists, readings and creative meetings, premieres of new books, discussions, exhibitions, concerts, art workshops and recitals will enliven Plovdiv during the festival. Premieres of their latest books will have such iconic names for Bulgarian literature as Zdravka Evtimova, Ivan Stankov, Chavdar Tsenov, Yordan Slaveykov, Margarita Petkova and Dobromir Banev, Kostadin Kostadinov, Atanas Kapralov, Antonia Apostolova, Joanna Elmi, Anton Baev, Rado Bimbalov, Svetlozar Zhelev, Valentin Dishev, Neiko Damyanov, Kiril Vassilev, Vladislav Hristov, Poli Mukanova, Victoria Beshliyska, Dimana Yordanova, Hussein Mevsim, Gergina Krasteva and many others. etc.
Traditionally, many foreign authors will be involved. Romanian writer Bogdan Stanescu will be a guest to talk about readers' tastes and publishing policies. The novel by the Italian writer Giovanni Dozzini "And Babukar led the column" (winner of the European Union Prize for Literature 2019) will be presented. Foreign guests with their books at Plovdiv Reads in 2022 are also the Ukrainian writers Evgenia Belorusets with her novel Happy Fall and Gaska Shiyan with her book Behind the Back. The Czech Center in Sofia will present the novel "Five Dead Dogs" by Czech writer Michal Sikora.
A meeting will be held within the festival - a conversation with the team from Georgia and personally with Nina Macharashvili, director of the team that worked on the organization of the international project "Tbilisi - World Book Capital 2021".
Children are also not forgotten. There will be special presentations of children's books for them. The writer Petya Kokudeva will present her latest book "Ihu-bihu-izmyslachus" to the little ones, and the young readers will be able to touch many children's books on the platform "Knigohodets" and the publishing house "Tochitsa".
The traditional for several years award ceremony "Reader of the Year from 5 to 105" of the National Library "Ivan Vazov" will take place.
This year the tents of nearly 50 Bulgarian publishing houses, included in the Plovdiv Book Alley, will be located on Central Square.
The Plovdiv Read Literary Festival is supported by the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the City's Cultural Calendar for 2022.
