Korean Traditional Music Concert
Sounds of traditional Korean instruments will transport Plovdiv to South Korea. With the melody of the instruments piri, hegam, degam and gayagam, 7 Korean performers from the East-West Music Society will present classical works from the Land of Morning Freshness in a one-hour free concert.
The event will present for the first time in Plovdiv a performance of Korean mono opera - pansori. The concert "Korean Traditional Music" will take place on June 17 at 18:00 in the "Plovdiv" hall of the "SPS-Plovdiv" hotel. It is part of a one-week visit of the Korean group from the East-West Music Society to Bulgaria. Their visit began with a concert in Sofia and passed through meetings with the Union of Bulgarian Composers, the National Academy of Music, AMTII and ended with a concert in the City under the Hills. Boknam Lee, chairman of the East-West Music Society, said: We are extremely excited about our upcoming meeting with the audience in Plovdiv! The impressively rich cultural heritage of the city has made it a must stop for our visit. It will be a pleasure for us to build a bridge between the traditions and ancient cultures of the two countries through Korean music. Among the unique instruments that will sound in Plovdiv are the Korean bamboo flute and double cane, called piri; the hegam string instrument, consisting of two silk strings played on with a horsehair bow; the bamboo degam wind instrument with a length of 80 cm, characterized by the fact that the performers always place it on their left shoulder; and a gayagam, in which twelve silk strings are tied to a wooden body and played with the fingers.
The concert "Korean traditional music" in Plovdiv is under the patronage of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Korea Violeta Sechkova and is carried out with the assistance of music manager Sumi Kim - Hannah Art Network.
