Visual project "2019, Synergy of the Future"
from 7 to 9 October 2022
 Exhibition hall "2019"

The project, 2019, Synergy of the Future, interprets the digital archive from the program of Plovdiv - European Capital of Culture 2019 to create a parametric sculpture of data, telling about the history of the city, the people and the events that happened in 2019.

The transformed data content becomes a large-scale audiovisual installation to be presented on the facade and in the gallery space of the Exhibition Hall "2019" for a period of 3 days, from 7 to 9 October 2022. In its essence, the project approaches the most - the modern forms of the so-called "virtual museums".

The content is built using modern, high-tech approaches to public art of the 21st century, including: software for the design of interactive systems, artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms. Their functions analyze the archive of Plovdiv ESC 2019, which includes:

- Photography, video and graphic design

- Statistics (reports, monitoring)

- Public resources (articles, links to communities and partners)

The purpose of this non-linear historical narrative is to propose a new kind of cognitive cartography of cultural heritage that explores the organic interplay between perception and reflection, memory and future.

The archives are artistically transformed and organized into an abstract cinematic experience with a musical ambisonics design created based on audio recordings from the events of 2019. Animation and sound interact interactively to transform the space into an immersive 360-degree environment that allows the audience to immersed in the atmosphere of Plovdiv as the European Capital of Culture. The visitors experienced in a different way, as if they already realized, the alternative urban reality - saturated with the memories and emotions of 2019.

This phantasmagoric vision of the past will also stimulate the creative impulse of the future.

The choice to present the visualization is not accidental - the Exhibition Hall "2019" in itself is a legacy of the European Capital of Culture Plovdiv 2019. The artistic intervention in the architecture enables an aesthetic rethinking of the place, transforming it into an immersive interactive environment.

The concept of the project has no analogue in Bulgaria and is extremely innovative in Europe and around the world. Its participants are a team of young professionals who can experiment with the most current means of expression, exploring the synergy between art and high technology. Their work contributes to the study of the relationship between tradition and modernity.

The author and manager of the project is the Plovdiv visual artist Petko Tanchev. He is a scenographer by education, and since 2016 he has been teaching "Visual Programming Tools" in the "Digital Arts" major at the National Academy of Arts. His professional activity includes a number of installations for national and international festivals, audiovisual performances, digital scenography projects, video mapping projections, multimedia interactive systems. Petko is a co-founder of the collectives Melformator and SenseLab and curator of the digital arts module Creative Media Lab, part of the "Night/Plovdiv" festival.

Music composer in the project is Georgi Atanasov. He graduated in Music Technology from UEA, UK and is the author of numerous compositions for interactive installations, theater productions, film productions. His interests are focused on sound art and the development of customized audio systems and IT technologies in the theater.

The project focuses on the unification of cultural values and the city as a living and constantly changing organism. It recreates the unique spirit and rhythm of Plovdiv, based on the connection between its interwoven urban networks, in the context of the emblematic 2019. The idea visualizes the processes that remain invisible - the interaction between citizens, the environment, the pace of life, stories and cultural heritage. This multidisciplinary installation shifts the layers of the city to open up a new, inspiring vision of the future based on our memories of the past; a kind of door in time that connects past, present and future.
