Exhibition: 175 years of Kuyumjioglu House
from September 15 to October 31
Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the construction of the Kuyumji House - the building that today houses the Regional Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv.

On this occasion, the Regional Ethnographic Museum organizes an exhibition that can be viewed from September 15 to October 31.

For centuries, until the Liberation, the great Orthodox families of Plovdiv considered the Three Hills, or the triangle between Jambaz, Nebet and Taksim Tepe, to be the most prestigious place to live. The Plovdiv researcher Nikola Gasharov writes that "every Bulgarian or Greek, who became rich in the bazaar from trade or from the craft, eagerly raised his eyes to the hills, to build a house there, to harm himself among the nobles, who long ago, like the patricians in the ancient Rome, they kept living in the high places - on the hills".
The Kuyumji family is no exception. The beginning was made by Konstantin, who came to Plovdiv with his sons from Kirk Klise (Lozengrad). He was a master goldsmith (goldsmith), as were his successors – Pavel, Ivan and Nikola. Initially, they settled in the Plovdiv district of Marasha and, after rising with their mastery, they also settled in Trihalmieto.

If you want to find out more about the first owner of the house, what happened to it after the Liberation and who is responsible for it being a museum today, come on September 15 from 18.00  at Ethnographic Museum - Plovdiv. The exhibition is part of the 11th edition of the Old Town Celebrations and the events related to the European Heritage Days initiative.
