Exhibition "Save the Soil"
from September 7 to 18
Tsar Simeon's Garden, next to the Demeter Fountain

Representatives of the "Save the Soil" movement and Deputy Mayor for Ecology Anesti Timchev officially opened the "Save the Soil" exhibition today. Residents of Plovdiv and guests of the city can view it until September 18 in Tsar Simeon's Garden, next to the "Demeter" fountain.

"To a large extent, the impact of human activities on nature is detrimental - especially against the background of the ongoing climate changes. Soil is one of the most important natural resources and caring for the planet starts with it. With this exhibition, we aim to show that within a few decades the fertility of the soil can disappear and we urgently need to take care of it," the organizers say.

According to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, 90% of the Earth's soils may degrade by 2050 if no action is taken now.

Deputy Mayor Anesti Timchev said that the new "Environment" program foresees a special section on soil, which will provide citizens with information about its care. He added that an expansion of the composting plant for biodegradable waste in Plovdiv is coming with the implementation of a packaging machine so that compost can be offered to companies and citizens.

The posters in the exhibition contain quotes from established Bulgarian scientists and organizations in support of "Save the Soil". The organizers say that as part of the initiative, a special book for children will be published, which will teach them how to take care of the soil in an easy and fun way. It is planned to be distributed to schools and kindergartens.
