Public lecture and workshop with Petar Lukanov

The doyen of the Bulgarian ballet, Prof. Petar Lukanov, is a long-time soloist, choreographer-director and teacher. He is the creator of more than 80 ballet productions, 35 dance miniatures and dance fragments for some of the most impressive opera productions on the stages of Bulgarian opera houses.

Immediately after the public lecture, at 1:00 p.m., the workshop begins, in which Petar Lukanov will share his rich professional experience in an active exchange of ideas, knowledge and good practices.

Prof. Lukanov permanently connects his creative destiny with the Ruse Opera. His professional path began in Ruse as a ballet dancer. He is a graduate of the famous Russian ballet dancer, choreographer and ballet teacher Leonid Lavrovsky, with whom he graduated in Ballet direction in Moscow. Prof. Petar Lukanov's creative commitments in the following years are related to work as choreographer-director at the Sofia National Opera, director and artistic director of the "Classical Dances" department at the State Choreographic School - Sofia, ballet director of the National Opera - Sofia. On his initiative and a curriculum prepared by him, in 1994 the specialties "Ballet Pedagogy" and "Ballet Directing" were opened at Art academy Asen Diamandiev - Plovdiv, where he taught the disciplines "Classical Dance Composition", "Ballet Directing" and "Ballet History". .

In addition to the best Bulgarian teachers, he managed to attract some of the leading teachers of the Russian Academy of Dance "A. Vaganova" in St. Petersburg, such as Prof. Irina Trofimova, Prof. Natalia Tarasova, etc., as well as the jazz and modern dance teacher Ime Dahlberg from the Netherlands. He was the head of the "Choreography" department (1989 - 1999), deputy rector of the Academy (1993 - 1999) and acting Rector.

Prof. Petar Lukanov has realized many productions in a number of Bulgarian opera houses in Bulgaria and around the world - Russia, Turkey, Greece. He is the recipient of the "Stara Planina" Order, the Golden and Crystal Lyre and the Award for Contemporary Choreography from the International Ballet Competition in Varna.
