Exhibition "The Medieval Temple - a hospital for the soul and the body"
From September 26 to October 9, in the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis, the residents and guests of the city will be able to view the exhibition "The Medieval Temple - Hospital of the Soul and Body", a project of the Medical Museum at the Medical University - Plovdiv with the support of the Municipality of Plovdiv and in partnership with the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute .
The unique exhibition will display icons of healing saints, a medieval wall paintings, talismans for health, medieval medical instruments, medicine books and botanical drawings of medicinal plants.
A special highlight is the paleoanthropological collection with samples from the medieval necropolis at the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis, which tells how man lived and suffered from in the Middle Ages.
At the opening on September 26, the public will enjoy an interactive compilation of exhibitions, educational lectures, musical performances and medieval cuisine tasting. It starts at 18.00.
Lecturers at the event are Associate Professor Elena Kantareva-Decheva, who will tell interesting facts about the floor mosaics from the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis and Prof. Georgi Tomov will present curious and little-known facts about medieval medicine in the city and the region.
Medieval Church Slavonic and Byzantine music will be performed by a male chamber choir in the unique atmosphere of the Bishop's Basilica of Philippopolis, and guests will be able to try unique medieval drinks and food, prepared and presented by culturologist Petya Krusheva.
