"Subjective Perceptions" is an exhibition of two young authors - Yordan Velkov and Gergana Balabanova. Their work, although at first glance different, is united by what it is based on - personal experiences and the emotions generated by them, which are transformed into an aesthetic experience. The open ending and the ambiguity of perceptions are valuable in their work. The viewer does not receive answers to specific questions - he is challenged to create his own associations, based on his experience and emotionality, thus aiming to create a more intimate and personal communication.
In their work, the uniqueness of each moment is key - short-lived and transitory, seemingly trivial, it is impossible to capture in a different way than the one in which it remained in time. On the border between the real and the abstract, the paintings in this exhibition have sealed within themselves the influence of light at a specific moment.
Characteristic of Yordan Velkov's stories is their unpretentiousness. The figures are placed in a relative space, which is either interior or part of the urban environment. The personal point of view is interwoven with scenes from everyday life, which, taken out of context, become part of social and philosophical themes. Logical thought is interrupted and replaced by a more conventional and emotional transmission of light and form. The images seem to form themselves, placed in an imaginary environment and viewed through his own eyes, capturing the transience of the moment. The fragmentation found in his works allows for a more personal communication with the viewer based on the possibility of individual interpretation. Nature and personal experience are only the starting point for the subsequent compositional experiment and metaphor, and the glaze technique he uses creates unexpected effects and allows for a more expressive transmission of atmosphere and state. The Principle of Directed Randomness.
In the paintings of Gergana Balabanova, the plot is absent and time seems to not exist. Based on the opposition of the general and the personal, the intimate, her work deals with indescribable things - the hidden thoughts and feelings, difficult to describe and left unsaid, existing only in the consciousness of each individual. Human beings sense and understand better on a subconscious level than verbally. Therefore, the viewer is provoked through observation and understanding to connect with his deeply locked feelings and moments sealed in the mind. Color, as the main means of expression, serves as a parallel between human life and her work. Its perception, including in nature, is the result of observation, concentration and reflection. The nuances, like life, in which nothing is definite and immutable, flow into each other and it is difficult to say what the main color is. Every situation has countless points of view depending on the observer.

The exhibition can be viewed in the hall of the City Art Gallery - Plovdiv at 15 Knyaz Alexander I from 30.09. - 19.10.2022
