To sing or to remain silent forever? A great singer is born from the shadow of another one. Maybe the shadow is the other singer? The singer’s double or the original. Victoria Voice or Maria Callas. The life of the singer ends where ends the art. But the life of the other singer continues ruthlessly. Mastered her role to perfection, the double knows how to play the diva. Will she resist the temptation to go on stage and do it?
The solo performance "Voice" of the Plovdiv Theatre won the annual prize of the Society of the Independent theater critics. The play was awarded for the "impressive harmony between the deep text by Elena Alexieva, the delicate direction of Kalin Angelov and the exquisite style combined with bitter self-irony and drama of the actress Ivana Papazova".
The independent criticism features a performance for the unity of all its components not for the first time. In 2007, an award was given to "Little play for a nursery," and two years later – to "The Goat or who is Sylvia”.
The annual prize is given for the eighth time. It has no pre-defined categories, the award is symbolic - a diploma. Thus a group of critics, including Ave Ivanova, Nichola Vandov, Prof. Kalina Stefanova, pay attention to the most important facts and events that happened in our theater during the year. Previous winners of the award were the directors Yavor Gurdev, Teddy Moskov and Margarita Mladenova, the actresses Snejina Petrova, Mimosa Bazova, Maya Novoselska and Svetlana Yancheva, as well as the Pazardzhik Theater.
The play presents the look-alike and unrealized double of the opera singer Maria Callas - Victoria Voice. The actress Ivana Papazova shows the life of the born into poverty Victoria, who has a divine voice but never becomes popular. After the death of the diva she gets a last chance to sing in front of some American tourists, not because of her gift, but because of the similarity with Callas. The award will be presented at the next visit of the show in Sofia.
