Concert in memory of Stefan Mutafchiev

On the Day of the National Awakeners - November 1, Folklore Ensemble "Trakia" and Plovdiv Municipality are pleased to invite Plovdiv citizens and guests to a concert - a tribute to the work and memory of Assoc. Stefan Mutafchiev.

The event, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the artist and conductor Stefan Mutafchiev, will be attended by the choirs and orchestras of the Folklore Ensemble "Thrace", Professional Folklore Ensemble "Pazardzhik" and the National School of Folk Arts "Shiroka Luka".

The concert on November 1, 2022, at the Boris Hristov House of Culture, starting at 19:00, is a gift from the Municipality of Plovdiv to the residents and guests of the city on the occasion of the holiday.

Entrance is free with invitations, which can be picked up from the building of the Trakia Ensemble and from the ticket office of the Boris Hristov House of Culture.

Associate Professor Stefan Mutafchiev (1942 - 1997) was born in Targovishte. He is the author of musical and stage works, symphonic, chamber and choral music. He is one of the established names in the field of the folk genre, a composer who in his works skillfully presents the musical original, developing and enriching it with bold, innovative and unconventional techniques.

His music forms the main repertoire of the Thrace Ensemble. As its long-standing chief artistic director and first conductor, he is active in concert activities and recordings for the Bulgarian National Radio, Bulgarian National Television, Radio Plovdiv, and Radio Stara Zagora.

The choir of Trakiа Mutafchiev, together with Marcel Celier - Swiss ethnologist, musician and producer, publisher of Bulgarian folklore, recorded their wonderful songs on the second and third CD of the series "The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices" and had a huge success in the Olympia Hall in Paris in 1990. It was nominated for the Grammy Award and ranked third in the Billboard chart.

The concert is part of the program in Plovdiv for November 1 and is a gift for Plovdiv residents.
