Jazz Club In the Jazz (17, Opalchenska St.) in Plovdiv presents a concert of Dimitar Liolev Quartet @ JAZZ INSIGHTS on October 28, 2022. On stage we will see amazing artists who promise you a truly fabulous evening full of musical emotions and mood. We will hear original melodies by Dimitar Liolev - saxophone, Ivan Melin - trombone, together with Stanislav Arabadzhiev - piano and Radoslav Slavchev - bass.
The beginning is at 21.00, the entrance is free! Doors will be open at 17.00.
Apart from being a saxophonist, Dimitar Lolev is also a composer and arranger. Born on January 7, 1973 in Plovdiv. He graduated from the Secondary Music School in Plovdiv with a degree in bassoon and piano. Later he started playing the saxophone.
In 2002 he was accepted to study at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, the Netherlands. There he studied and graduated from the "New York Comes to Groningen" program with Ralph Peterson (drums), Don Brayden (saxophone), David Burkman (piano), Joris Tepey (bass), Conrad Herwig (trombone), Brian Lynch (trumpet) Dina DeRose (vocals and piano).
In 2004, Dimitri reached the finals of the prestigious Dutch Jazz Competition, presenting his band Rakia at the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2005, he won second prize for jazz soloist in the "Leidse Jazz Stad Competition" in Leiden, the Netherlands. He was nominated for the "Harten Aas jazz award 2005".
In 2005 he came back to Bulgaria and started a busy concert and performance activity, playing with some of the most famous Bulgarian musicians - Teodosii Spasov, Angel Zaberski Son, Antoni Donchev, Mikhail Yosifov, Hristo Yotsov, Stoyan Yankulov, Hilda Kazasyan, Lili Ivanova and many others.
In 2008 he started teaching in the Jazz and Pop Department in Plovdiv. He is a member of the Big Band "Braz Association". Musical director of "July Jazz Festival". Since 2012 he has been playing in the National Radio Big Band.
The event is financially supported by the Municipality of Plovdiv and is part of the city's Cultural Calendar for 2022.
