Discovering Freedom - photographs by Galina Usheva in the Mexican Art Permanent Exhibition
The famous Burg photographer Galina Usheva will present her solo exhibition "To Discover Freedom" to the Plovdiv audience from 2 to 21 November 2022.
In the Mexican Art Permanent Exhibition at the City Gallery of Fine Arts - Plovdiv (11, Artin Gidikov Street, Old Town) she will show specially selected color and black and white photographs in which the main "character" are buildings abandoned by their former inhabitants. As the journalist and cultural critic Mitko Novkov remarks about her works, "And here comes the paradox: these views supposedly speak of absence, but with the smallest pictorial particle they show presence. The presence of the human: it was hidden - now it has opened its veil; it was shrunk - now it has swept into space; it was closed - now it has opened itself to the gaze. For that gaze which knows to see it and - seeing it - to feel it. To feel it not as something else, but as freedom. Or as a bird in the sky - it is the same..."
The opening is on November 2 at 6 pm.
The first exhibition of Galina Usheva was in 1978. Her works have been included in many national and international exhibitions from Thessaloniki to Mexico and have received a number of significant awards.
In 2000 Galina Usheva established the "Marigraphy" Foundation, whose aim is to promote Bulgarian photographers. The Foundation organizes two plein air workshops on the Southern Black Sea coast, in which more than 20 photographers from the country participate. Both plein air workshops are presented with catalogues.
