On 31 January 2023, Tuesday, at 11.00 a.m., in Plovdiv, the 169th anniversary of the birth of Stefan Stambolov will be commemorated with a military ritual and the laying of wreaths and flowers on the square of the same name in front of the Municipality of Plovdiv. The solemn celebration will be attended by a military brass band, a representative platoon, wreath bearers and members of the "Patriotism" committee.

Radomir Cholakov - Bulgarian lawyer, member of the 45th, 46th, 47th and 48th National Assemblies of the Republic of Bulgaria - will deliver a speech about the statesman.

The ceremony will be hosted by the actor from the Plovdiv Drama Theatre - Stefan Popov.

The celebration of Stambolov's birthday is expected to be attended by the Mayor of Plovdiv Municipality, Members of the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Municipal Council, Major General Yavor Mateev - Commander of the "Joint Special Operations Command" and Chief of the Plovdiv Garrison, Honorary Consuls, Municipal Councillors, Deputy Mayors, District Mayors, representatives of the Municipality, the Regional Administration, the Public Mediator of Plovdiv Municipality, representatives of political and social organizations, citizens and media.

The author of the monument is sculptor Krasimir Rusev (1944-2015), who created a number of talented works related to Plovdiv personalities and events. His most famous work is the bust of Stefan Stambolov on the square of the same name in front of the Plovdiv Municipality, where since 1997 (with some interruption), on January 31 every year the anniversary of the birth of the Bulgarian statesman is celebrated. The square was named after Stefan Stambolov on the basis of a decision taken by the Plovdiv Municipal Council in 1997, when Spas Garnevski was mayor of Plovdiv.

Radomir Cholakov was born in Plovdiv. He graduated in Law at the Sofia University. He specialized in media law at the II Faculty of Law, University of Hamburg, Germany (1991-1995) and holds a Master's degree in law from the Faculty of Law, University of Vienna (2013). He was Executive Director of BNT, General Counsel and Administrative Director of the Newspaper Group Bulgaria, Executive Director of the Union of Publishers in Bulgaria. Member of the 45th, 46th, 47th and 48th National Assemblies of the Republic of Bulgaria.
