"The reason why I took up this obliging and responsible task, to write a book of memories, is only one - the great affection for my beloved Plovdiv, for the Philibelians.
The book contains personal experiences over the years: meetings with people, incidents and events that have changed the face of the city we love immensely. In the second part are shared impressions from the surroundings of Plovdiv, the places along these few rays are really interesting and worthy of attention. The book is a charge to the youth of today's Plovdiv to never forget the privilege of being a Plovdiv citizen and to love the magnificent and beloved city," says the author Julius Slavov.
Julius Slavov was born on July 1, 1939 in Plovdiv, in a family of hereditary Plovdiv residents. He completed his secondary education at the Second Unified School - Plovdiv in 1957, but was not admitted to the university for unstated but more than clear reasons. He managed to overcome the regime measures and three years later he was a student at MEI "Lenin", where he graduated as a mechanical engineer in 1966 and was assigned to DIP "Balkan" - Plovdiv, where he worked for more than 25 years. Fate has determined his life with exciting incarnations. At the age of 6, he crossed the gates of the Sofia Central Prison for a visit with his father, sentenced by the Second Chamber of the People's Court. At the age of 18, after being forbidden to apply for higher education, he began working as a porter (innkeeper) in "Elprom" - Plovdiv, on ul. "Kavala". At the age of 60, he was invited and participated in the Prayer Breakfast in Washington with President Bill Clinton. At 62, he retired as a member of the 38th National Assembly.
Today, at the age of 84, Julius Slavov continues to delight us as the author of books dedicated to the memory of his beloved Plovdiv, told in an engaging way, with affection and with a fatherly testament to the generations to come.
