The ninth edition of the International Cinema-Literary Festival Cinelibri is held under the motto "Metamorphoses", with which we symbolically mark the 140th anniversary of the birth of Franz Kafka - one of the most significant and influential figures in the literature of the 20th century. The overall concept, vision and program of the festival this autumn is inspired by the idea of the continuous transformations and transformations in nature and society. The selected literary adaptations for the big screen will be shown in our country immediately after their triumphant appearance at the world's most prestigious film festivals: Cannes, Venice, Berlin, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, etc.

Between October 14 and 29, the discerning public of the City under the Hills will have access to magnificent film and literary premieres, including selected titles that compete in the feature film competition such as "Lubo", "Operation Napoleon" and "The Braid", as well as films that are part of the rich parallel program of the festival. The start of Cinelibri Plovdiv gives Wim Wenders' documentary film masterpiece "Anselm", dedicated to the famous artist and sculptor Anselm Kiefer. This moving, reverent portrait weaves together the unorthodox artist's past and present to shed light on the sources of inspiration that helped shape his visionary universe.

On October 15, Milena Fuchejieva will be visiting Plovdiv with her striking debut in your cinema's documentary entitled "Weimar Express". She will personally introduce the film and answer audience questions after the screening. Of particular note are the Italian drama A Wonderful Summer, an adaptation of Cesare Pavese's novel starring Deva Cassel, and the French psychological drama Just the Two of Us, starring Virginie Efira and Melville Pupault, which touches on the hot topic of bullying. The biographical drama "Alma and Oskar" resurrects the stormy relationship between Viennese socialite Alma Mahler and the great expressionist painter Oskar Kokoschka. And the film "On the black paths" will meet you with a different character of Jean Dujardin, more sensitive and spiritual.

Among the highlights of the program is the dramatic romance with a twist of comedy Mister Blake at Your Service (2023) directed by Gilles Legardinier, a charming story starring John Malkovich and Fanny Ardan. Fans of Spanish cinema will not be disappointed either. director Cesc Guy has created a sardonic yet sympathetic ode to people's inability to control their own emotions, which bears the catchy title Stories That Don't Tell. The viewers of Plovdiv will be able to appreciate me on October 20. The hypnotic sci-fi melodrama "The Beast" by director Bertrand Bonello is on the program for October 27. The film is an adaptation of Henry James' novel The Beast in the Jungle, a tale of fate, omens, love and loneliness. The always flawless Léa Seydoux and the magnetic George Mackay play two lovers who meet again and again in space and space until disaster looms. And on October 28 is the Plovdiv premiere of "The crime is mine", the new film by the tireless François Ozon, who never ceases to surprise us!

We can't help but highlight "Passions in the Kitchen" by director Tran Anh Hung, which was awarded the prize for directing at the Cannes Film Festival. The stars of French cinema, Benoit Magimel and Juliette Binoche, a former couple in life, are reincarnated in the images of Doden Bouffant - a prominent gourmet and culinary chef, and Eugenie - his assistant and muse, in this very tempting and "sensual" romantic drama created by motifs from the novel "The Passionate Epicurean" by Marcel Rouf. Cinelibri Plovdiv 2023 will close on October 29 with "The Palace", an in-house co-production in Italy, Switzerland, Poland and France. Fans of Roman Polanski's aesthetic should not miss this biting black comedy to mark the director's 90th birthday.

This fall, as a nod to younger audiences, Cinelibre will celebrate 100 Years of Walt Disney with some of the most beloved, award-winning animated productions. The children of Plovdiv will be able to see "The Heroic Six", "The Brave Vayana", "Zootropolis" and "The Frozen Kingdom".
