Ghost Villages - Audiovisual concert
An audiovisual performance "Ghost Villages", which uses sounds and images from abandoned Bulgarian villages, is coming up on Thursday, March 16 at 8:30 pm, at the LUCKY House of Cinema. "Ghost Villages" is a project in development that began as an experimental music album featuring sounds from the field recorded in abandoned villages in the Trevna Mountain region. Subsequently supplemented by photographs taken at these same locations, it continues to take different forms and will be presented as an audiovisual concert - live music featuring the recorded sounds of the field and a projection of the footage.
In the Tryavna region there are over 100 villages and neighbourhoods with a total population of less than 1000 inhabitants. Some of them have only 2-3 inhabitants, while others have been completely depopulated for years and are gradually being swallowed up by nature. For us humans it can be said that this is a pandemic of extinction, but for nature it is a completely natural process and part of its cycle.
Mirian Kolev is a musician and multidisciplinary artist living in Stara Planina and working in the field of experimental, electroacoustic, ambient, improvisational music and sound art. In the last 10 years he has performed around 300 events in 25 countries in Europe and Asia. He also works on collaborative projects with other musicians, visual artists, dancers, performance artists and composes music for art installations, videos and dance performances. His music is minimalist, atmospheric and discreetly psychedelic, and improvisation is an essential part of each of his live performances, turning it into an expressive soundtrack of time and space. His music is at times dark, at times cosmic, and melancholy is often present in it, as in the world around him.
Tickets for the show are available online at kinolucky.com, and at the LUCKY House of Cinema box office. "The event is supported by the Access Programme of the Art Office Foundation, funded by the National Culture Fund.
