The year 2023 marks the 125th anniversary of the birth of one of Plovdiv's most prominent archaeologists, honorary citizen of the city and former director of the Archaeological Museum - Dimitar Tsonchev.
Dimitar Tsontchev Minchev was born on April 10, 1898 in the village of. He was born on April 10, 2018 in Rukhovtsi, Northern Bulgaria, but his fate connected him with Plovdiv and much of his life passed here.
Regional Archaeological Museum - Plovdiv will mark the anniversary with several events. The first of them, a free talk dedicated to the great archaeologist, will take place on 8 April, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and will be the first talk of the restored initiative "Archaeology for Everyone".
On 12 April, visitors to the museum will be able to experience a more intimate side of Dimitar Tsontchev's life. The exhibition-screening, curated by Ekaterina Ilieva, will mostly present photos from the archaeologist's personal archive. Thus, through the frozen images of meetings, research and important events, the visitor will be able to feel the era of the time and discover the man behind the scientist.
The exhibition will remain at the museum until the end of April!
