On 20 April we celebrate 147 years since the outbreak of the April Uprising. Also called the April Epic, the uprising of the Bulgarian people in the spring of 1876 was the most significant armed manifestation of the national liberation movement for the independence of Bulgaria from the Ottoman Empire, the highest manifestation of the Bulgarian national revolution.

Organizers of the event are Plovdiv Municipality, Regional History Museum - Plovdiv, Committee of Patriotism. Speeches at the memorial sites will be delivered by Stoyan Ivanov, Director of the RHM- Plovdiv, Mariana Mircheva, lecturer at P. Hilendarski University and the heirs of the Sveshtar family.

Route:

10:30 a.m. - Assembly point and start of the procession - Saedinenie Square, The procession is led by the Patriotism Committee, followed by students from the Professional High School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics Plovdiv, Dusho Hadzydekov Primary School, Kocho Chestimenski Primary School and Vasil Petleshkov Primary School.

Around 10:45 a.m. – The procession arrives at a commemorative plaque near the underpass of the former Maritsa pharmacy, at the beginning of the main street. Story by Mr. Stoyan Ivanov, director of RHM - Plovdiv, presentation of flowers.

Around 11:15 a.m. - Arrival at the plaque of Sveshtarov Brothers next to Jumaya mosque - offering flowers and a story by Mrs. Mariana Mircheva, teacher at P. Hilendarski University and heiress of the Sveshtarov family. The procession moves along the main street

Around 12:00 p.m. - Arrival at the Vasil Petleshkov monument in Tsar Simeon's Garden - the last point of the procession. Presentation of wreaths and flowers, speech by Mr. Stoyan Ivanov. Reenactment of Establishment of a secret revolutionary committee in Plovdiv and announcement of the April Uprising.

Around 1:00 p.m. – End of the event.
