Every year on May 24, the holy Christian brothers Cyril and Methodius - the creators and spreaders of the first Slavonic script - are honoured. The merit of turning this church holiday into a national Bulgarian of our education and culture is due to the revivalist Naiden Gerov and his disciples.
February 23, 2023 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Naiden Gerov - one of the most important figures in the Bulgarian Revival, an apostle of Bulgarian secular class education, politician, diplomat, explorer, poet, writer, patriot, loving husband and caring father. The long list of his contributions to Bulgaria begin with the publication of the first Bulgarian love poem, the first Bulgarian proverbs, the writing of the first Bulgarian travelogues, the first Bulgarian textbook on physics, he was our first teacher with higher education, the first Bulgarian appointed as Russian vice-consul in Plovdiv, the first Bulgarian senior administrator in free Bulgaria, etc. and end with the capital work of his life - the creation of the first Bulgarian dictionary, covering over 130 thousand words, expressions, sentences, personal names, excerpts from folk songs, etc. - an achievement unsurpassed to this day.
In the funds of the Regional History Museum - Plovdiv is kept a significant part of the archive of Naiden Gerov and on the occasion of the anniversary of his birth will be shown the exhibition "Collected and edited Naiden Gerov, and the Regional History Museum - Plovdiv", dedicated to his personal and professional path. The exhibition will be opened at 14:00 on May 24 in the exposition "The Bulgarian National Revival".
